All In One Shootout: Bowflex VS. Total Gym
Filed Under Home Exercise |
Many people these days are turning their backs on gym memberships and looking to exercise at home. After all, that’s why you’re here. We are all about home fitness equipment right? Any way, for those looking into having a home gym have a few options. You are very lucky if you have enough space and money for several dedicated machines. Unfortunately, most of us don’t. So a simple solution for those of us limited on space and cash is the all in one home gym. While not cheap, these home fitness centers can usually pack a wide variety of exercises in a single machine.
With that in mind, we are going to do a little compare and contrast with two popular machines, the Bowflex and the Total Gym.
Lets back up just a little though with some things you should think about when you are shopping for an all in one system. The first thing you ask yourself should be, what are your goals? Do you want an all around workout or do you want to focus on muscle building? When you are looking at a machine just ask yourself, will this help me reach my goals? Simple enough so far.
Ok, back to the machines. I’m sure you have seen the commercials. The Bowflex and Total Gym are advertised on TV about every 10 minutes. They are really completely different machines. The Bowflex works by using resistant bows that bend instead of weights. It offers a wide range of exercises. It does work well and offers a wide range of configurations at different prices.
Another nice feature of the Bowflex is that it can be folded to store in a smaller space. Some of the smaller configurations can slip under a bed when not in use. Expanding the Bowflex gives it even more flexibility, with enough exercises to rival professional workout equipment.
Total Gym advertisements are given some star power with Chuch Norris and Christie Brinkley featured in their commercials. Price wise, the Total Gym is less expensive than the Bowflex, but doesn’t offer the expandability or features. The Total Gym uses gravity and your body’s own weight for resistances. There are however a wide variety of fitness exercises you can do with this simple system.
Choosing the right system for your home can be a little difficult, but if you just make a list of your requirements it can be a little easier. Your decision list should include price, features, and size. Also take into account anyone else in the home that may be using the machine. Make sure that the machine isn’t too complicated and everyone can use it.
Though we’ve only talked about the Bowflex and Total Gym, there are lots and lots of all in one systems at just about any price range. It’s a good idea to check out all your options. Check out reviews on the Internet, do some research on the brand and try them out for yourselves. Good Luck Shopping!
