Over three quarters of a persons body is made up of water. It is essential to life. A person can only survive about 3 days without having any water. While the body needs water, the diets of today have replaced it with sodas and other drinks high in sugar. Of course water is the better choice for your body as the high sugar drinks add a lot of calories to the diet.
A persons need for water can very depending on outside temperature, your weight and exercise. Researchers belive that more than two thirds of adults are not drinking as much water as they need. Drinking water keeps your body hydrated and functioning well.
Most people wait until they are thirsty to drink water. But this isn’t a very good way to judge when you should drink water. By the time you feel thirsty your body has lost about two cups of water. It is a better idea to just drink water regularly throughout the day.
Of course it is important that you don’t replace the water with other drinks containing sugar, alcohol or caffeine. These types of beverages can actually dehydrate your body.
It is important that whenever you exercise you should drink more water. Your body will lose a lot of water through perspiration. Take a look at all that sweat dripping on your home fitness equipment. For every pound lost with exercise you should drink at least 2 cups of water. But even when your body is at rest or asleep it is still losing water.
Another time your body needs more water is when you are sick. Your body can very easily become dehydrated when you are sick and you should drink more water when you have a cold or the flu.
Try to make it part of your daily routine to drink water. Keep a glass or bottle of water with you at all times. If you are used to drinking other beverages besides water, try to ween yourself off of them or only drink them occasionaly as they don’t help your body.
